🪐🚀 NASA’S MARS SIMULATION BEGINS IN TEXAS — PILOTS, SCIENTISTS, AND A FAKE RED PLANET BASE. NASA just tapped an Air Force test pilot, a Space Force colonel, and two civilians to live one full year inside a Mars-like habitat in Houston. The mission kicks off October 19 — and could help prove humans can survive the trip to Mars.

—> 🧪 WHY THE SIMULATION MATTERS: The four-person crew will be locked inside the 3D-printed “Mars Dune Alpha” somewhere in Texas… facing fake emergencies, communication delays, and tight rations. They’ll test gear, grow food, and simulate Mars walks to prepare for the real mission. More, via Task & Purpose:

The mission is one of several planned by NASA to test how a human crew would adapt to the long durations of a manned mission to Mars. The missions will take place in what NASA calls a “3D-printed habitat” in which the crew will “undergo realistic resource limitations, equipment failures, communication delays, isolation and confinement, and other stressors, along with simulated high-tempo extravehicular activities,” according to a NASA release.

—> 🔍 REMEMBER… THIS WEEK WE LEARNED OF POTENTIAL PAST LIFE ON MARS. WHAT THEY FOUND: Remember: This week, NASA announced was an historic discovery. A rock sample called Sapphire Canyon may hold a biosignature — a chemical clue that ancient microbial life once existed on Mars. After a full year of peer review, scientists say it’s still their best lead yet.

—> 🛰️ THE VIKING REMINDER: 50 years ago, NASA’s Viking landers searched for life on Mars. One test hinted at microbes, two didn’t. A new paper says a chemical in the soil may have destroyed the evidence. Scientists say the hunt isn’t over.

Send me…

hello, future. it’s me, kev.

…and this is a dispatch from the digital frontier. It’s time to meet the future NOW — with the latest on markets, tech, and freedom. The day is 254. The year is 2025. The planet is Earth.

Why do I want to go to space? Because it’s time regular people get the chance. Humanity’s drive to explore has always made life better here on Earth. Space isn’t just about rockets — it’s about solving problems: protecting our climate, fighting disease, even rethinking organ donation. Low-gravity research can unlock breakthroughs we can’t achieve on the ground.

If I can help translate that story — while contributing to real science — it would be a mission worth taking. Send me. Not for a selfie, but for the future. Make it my job. Because the future of work is inter planetary. Period.

I’m so so so excited to show you how fact mtf is going to grow in the next six weeks. Buckle up…

The planet has complete 69.6 percent of its orbit around the Sun. My name is Kevin Cirilli —> LinkedIn. Sign-up to receive the future in your inbox here.

🚀🪙 SENDING BITCOIN TO MARS? IT COULD TAKE JUST 3 MINUTES — Scientists say you could send money from Earth to Mars using satellites, lasers, and space tech that already exists. The idea is called Proof-of-Transit Timestamping (PoTT) — and it works kind of like stamping a passport at every stop!

—> 🛰️ HOW IT WORKS: When you send Bitcoin, the signal bounces between satellites, moon stations, or even Starlink in space. Each stop "stamps" the message with the time it arrives and leaves. When it gets to Mars, you know exactly how it got there — like tracking a package!

—> 🧠 WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: If humans ever live on Mars (Elon Musk says soon), they’ll need a way to buy stuff — just like on Earth. This system could let you send lunch money to your cousin on Mars or rent money to a Martian roommate. It also shows how space and crypto are coming together — and why your future job might be a space money gamer.

—> 👽 WHAT’S NEXT: This tech could be tested right now with pretend Mars delays. And someday, robots or people on Mars could use it for real. Even Jeff Bezos' space company accepts Bitcoin… but only just past Earth. So far.

🤖🧠 “A GENERAL-PURPOSE BRAIN FOR ROBOTS” — NVIDIA’S DEEPU TALLA GOES DEEP ON PHYSICAL AI. In a new episode of the Washington AI Network Podcast, Tammy Haddad sat down with NVIDIA’s Deepu Talla to talk humanoids, synthetic data, and how America is racing China to build a new kind of factory floor: one powered by robots that think.

—> 🛠️ BUILDING A ROBOT BRAIN: “The best in the world right now are trying to create a reasonably good general-purpose brain,” Talla said. But robots need way more data than ChatGPT ever did. That’s where NVIDIA comes in — generating millions of synthetic simulations to train physical AIs that can operate in the real world, safely and efficiently.

—> 🧍 HUMANOIDS ARE COMING: Why the human shape? Because the world was built for humans. “Humanoids provide us the best opportunity to create that general-purpose brain,” Talla explained. From elder care to factory lines, humanoid robots could unlock the golden age of manufacturing — especially in the U.S.

—> 🇺🇸 U.S. VS. CHINA: THE ROBOTICS RACE: “The golden age of American manufacturing has already started,” said Talla. With reshoring policies, AI tools, and robotic breakthroughs, the U.S. is gaining ground fast. But China’s labor shortage is forcing them to double down, too — and the global stakes couldn’t be higher.

HEALTH

🧠⚡ BRAIN CHIPS GO MAINSTREAM: NEURALINK SAYS 12 PEOPLE NOW IMPLANTED. Elon Musk’s brain-tech startup Neuralink confirmed that a dozen patients worldwide are using its brain-computer interface — up from just 7 this summer. Together, they’ve logged 15,000+ hours of use, proving the implants can restore digital independence to people with paralysis.

—> 🎮 LIFE AFTER PARALYSIS: Noland Arbaugh, Neuralink’s first patient, was paralyzed from the shoulders down. Now, with only his thoughts, he chats with friends, browses the web — and even played a live chess match on stage at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference. “It’s all thought-based,” he explained.

—> 📣 WHY YOU CARE: Brain-computer interfaces aren’t science fiction anymore. They could help millions living with paralysis, reshape how humans connect with technology — and maybe one day, give everyone a new way to interact with machines.

🕶️⚔️ MIXED REALITY GOES TO WAR — AND BEYOND. The U.S. Army just dropped $350M on next-gen AR headsets. Meta + Anduril (Palmer Luckey’s defense firm) and Rivet (backed by Palantir) will each deliver hundreds of devices for testing. The goal: give every soldier “superhuman perception.” Think night vision, battlefield maps, and drone control — all fused into one headset.

—> 🛡️ SOLDIER MODE: Called SBMC (Soldier-Borne Mission Command), the program replaces Microsoft’s troubled IVAS goggles. Anduril’s system mixes AR overlays, thermal imaging, and AI — so troops don’t waste time flipping between radios, maps, and gear. “See more, know more, act faster,” is the pitch.

—> 🩺🚀 AFTER SOLDIERS… ASTRONAUTS? If mixed reality works in combat, military medics could use it to treat injuries in the field, while astronauts could wear it on long missions to Mars. From battlefield triage to spacewalk checklists, the tech could leap from defense to medicine to space exploration.

—> 📣 WHY YOU CARE: Mixed reality isn’t just about games. These headsets could reshape how we train, heal, and explore. Today it’s Army squads; tomorrow it’s surgeons, scientists — even astronauts — all seeing the world through a new digital layer.
