—> WHAT HAPPENED: SpaceX delivered four astronauts (two American NASA astronauts, one Japanese, and one Russian) to the International Space Station in just 15 hours. The astronauts blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Friday and got to ISS at 2:26 a.m. EDT on Saturday.
—> WHY THIS FLIGHT MATTERS: Reaching orbit used to take a full day or longer. Now, commercial spaceflight can do it overnight. That kind of speed changes what’s possible — from emergency resupply to rapid-response science missions.
—> WHY YOU CARE: Yes, the science of getting to space faster matters… but it also could just make that flight to Hawaii from DC eventually way shorter as we develop tech that gets us to places faster :)

🌀🛰️ SPACE HURRICANES ARE REAL — AND THEY MESS WITH GPS. Scientists just confirmed that giant storms made of charged particles — called space hurricanes — are swirling over Earth’s poles. They spin like regular hurricanes with a calm “eye” in the middle, but instead of wind and rain, they shoot high-energy electrons into space. A new study in Space Weather shows they can jam GPS signals and even shake Earth’s magnetic field.
—> WHAT’S A SPACE HURRICANE? Imagine a storm you can’t see — no clouds, no rain — just glowing spirals of energy high above the planet. These storms happen near the North and South Poles and are made of plasma, a super-hot gas full of electricity. They can be over 1,000 miles wide and shoot “electron rain” into the upper atmosphere.
—> WHY IT MATTERS: Space hurricanes don’t just stay in space. They can mess up satellite signals, scramble your GPS, and make it harder for pilots and ships to find their way. And the wild part? They usually happen during calm space weather — meaning we might not even see them coming.

🧠💥 QUANTUM COMPUTERS JUST GOT REAL — AND THEY’RE COMING FASTER THAN EXPECTED. This week, top companies like IBM, Comcast, and Moderna said they’re already testing early quantum computers — machines that could reshape the internet, medicine, insurance, and even food. One quantum system might be ready as soon as 2029, much earlier than experts thought.

It’s kind of like giving your immune cells Google Maps so they don’t get lost trying to find the bad guys, according to researchers who published in Science, a smart people’s science journal.
—> WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT? Usually, finding the right cancer-fighting tools takes months and a lot of trial and error. But with AI, scientists designed these custom “search-and-destroy” proteins in just a few days—and one of them worked so well it stopped cancer growth in lab tests.

🧺🤖 A HUMANOID ROBOT JUST DID LAUNDRY — AND THE INTERNET LOST IT. Meet Figure 02, the latest humanoid robot from U.S. startup Figure AI, which just went viral for loading laundry like a pro. Powered by an AI brain called Helix, the robot understands vision, language, and action — and is set to begin home trials this year.
—> WHAT’S IT GOOD FOR? Figure 02 is already lifting bags on conveyor belts at BMW’s factory and doing months-long training runs in office kitchens. The next-gen model, Figure 03, could even help in hospitals or disaster zones.
—> WHEN DO WE GET ONE? Sometime in the next decade… right now? Analysts estimate that robots with these capabilities cost about $50K… so maybe we’re better off just doing the laundry ourselves…
