☀️⚡ THE SUN JUST FIRED OFF 3 BIG SOLAR FLARES IN 24 HOURS. After three weeks of calm, the Sun’s AR 4168 sunspot region unleashed three M‑class flares in less than a day — the most activity since mid‑July. Space weather forecasters are now watching for possible CMEs (coronal mass ejections) that could head toward Earth this week.
—> WHAT’S A CME? It’s a giant burst of charged particles from the Sun that can travel through space and slam into Earth’s magnetic field — sometimes knocking out satellites, GPS, and even power grids. CMEs can also make the auroras brighter and visible farther south.
—> WHY IT MATTERS: While this weekend’s flares aren’t expected to cause major disruptions, AR 4168’s unstable magnetic field could produce bigger blasts — including X‑class flares — in the days ahead. That means more chances for auroras… and more risks for tech in orbit and on the ground.
