💰🌑 THE COMING GOLD RUSH: ASTEROID MINING. Space miners are chasing trillion-dollar rocks — and the moon might be the easiest place to start.
—> ASTEROID BLING: From iron and nickel to platinum group metals (PGMs), asteroids are loaded with precious materials. NASA’s Psyche mission is en route to a metal-rich asteroid some say could be worth trillions. Meanwhile, sample-return missions like OSIRIS-REx are giving Earth its first real taste of space rock treasure.
—> MOON VS. SPACE: New research suggests lunar craters may already be loaded with asteroid remnants. Thousands of impact sites could contain high-value ore and hydrated minerals — making the moon a safer, easier target than free-floating space rocks.
—> ASTROFORGE BETS BIG: California startup AstroForge is leading the private race, aiming to extract PGMs from asteroids. After losing contact with its first mission, Odin, the company plans to launch its next spacecraft, Vestri, in 2026.
—> RULES NEEDED: As asteroid mining moves from sci-fi to startup pitch decks, students from Imperial College and others are calling for an international body to govern asteroid orbit changes caused by human activity. Their proposal won the Schweickart Prize in planetary defense.

🧬🌌 ALIEN LIFE? LOOK DEEPER — LIKE, DEEP SEA DEEP. NASA’s latest bet to find life on Jupiter’s icy moon starts at the bottom of Earth’s ocean.
—> MEET THE MICROBE HUNTER: UMass Amherst microbiologist James Holden just scored $621K from NASA to explore what alien life might look like on Europa — by studying rare microbes that thrive near deep-sea volcanoes a mile below the ocean’s surface.
—> WHY VOLCANOES MATTER: Beneath Europa’s frozen crust, scientists believe there’s a salty ocean in contact with a molten core — kinda like Earth’s hydrothermal vents. That’s where Holden has been diving (literally, in submarines) since 1988 to collect life forms that survive without light or oxygen.
—> THE SCIENCE OF STRANGE LIFE: Holden’s lab simulates extreme deep-ocean conditions to study hydrogen-powered microbes. His new research will explore how alien chemistry — like hydrogenases and elemental reactions involving sulfur, iron, and carbon — might fuel life on Europa.
—> BIG QUESTION: If there’s alien life in our solar system, could it already exist in a similar form on Earth?

QUANTUM // ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
🧠 ALTMAN'S WARNING: SOCIAL FEEDS, NOT AI, ARE MESSING WITH KIDS' BRAINS. OpenAI’s Sam Altman says it’s not ChatGPT parents should worry about — it’s TikTok. In a new interview, Altman told Theo Von that dopamine-drip short-form video feeds are likely “messing with kids’ brain development in a super deep way.”
—> 👶 BUT THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT? Altman says kids born into the AI age will adapt faster than their parents. “People that grow up with [new tech] are always fluent… They always learn the new kind of jobs.”
—> 🤖 REAL RED FLAG = OVER-RELIANCE: Still, Altman says AI can’t be your therapist. “Even if ChatGPT gives way better advice than any human therapist… something about deciding to live our lives the way AI tells us feels bad and dangerous.”

TRUMP AI DAY
🇺🇸🤖 WHITE HOUSE GOES ALL-IN ON AI: Trump signs executive orders to boost U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence.
—> WHAT HAPPENED: President Trump signed a major package of executive orders this week focused on making America the global leader in artificial intelligence. The new rules touch everything from exports to infrastructure — and aim to speed up tech development at home and abroad.
—> THE ORDERS DO FOUR BIG THINGS:
• Make AI leadership a top national priority
• Open up U.S. tech exports by launching a new American AI Exports Program
• Speed up federal approval for massive AI data centers
—> WHY IT MATTERS: The new export program will give select AI projects access to federal loans, insurance, and investment — especially if they help U.S. allies adopt American AI.
—> FAST-TRACKING INFRASTRUCTURE: One order tells federal agencies to make public lands available for AI data centers and to remove permitting delays. The White House says current rules make it “almost impossible” to build what’s needed.
—> ENTER: THE AI INNOVATION COUNCIL: On the same day, a new group called the AI Innovation Council launched to promote “America First AI.” It’s led by former government lawyer James Burnham and backed by leaders in tech, law, defense, and business.

ROBOTS
🖖 WRIST TECH THAT READS YOUR MIND (SORTA). Meta just revealed a prototype wristband that lets you control a computer with your thoughts — no implants, no typing, no screen-tapping. Just a flick of the fingers… or even the intention to move.
—> 🤯 HOW IT WORKS: The device reads electrical signals from your muscles (sEMG) before you even move. You can “air write” a message, tap invisible buttons, or guide a cursor across a screen with your wrist.
—> 🧠 VS. NEURALINK: Unlike Elon Musk’s brain chip, this tech doesn’t require surgery. Meta’s approach is noninvasive — but still powerful enough to detect signals from people with full hand paralysis.
—> 💡 ACCESSIBILITY FIRST: The wristband is being tested with Carnegie Mellon to help people with spinal cord injuries use computers hands-free. “We can see their intention to type,” one CMU researcher said.
—> WHY YOU CARE: If you believe that smart glasses are the future (we do)… then having a wristband that helps you “click” is the accessory for your face that doesnt’ require your phone. Meta plans to integrate this tech into future smart glasses and more.
